Five Strategies For Leveraging AI, IoT For A Safe Return To Work

In almost a year, the COVID-19 pandemic has upended decades of conventional wisdom about the nature of work. Employees across industries continue to demonstrate that productivity isn’t measured by hours spent at a desk or in an office, but by qualities like diligence, ingenuity, and resilience.

By the same token, the pandemic has also illuminated the true benefits of coming into the office – much of which positively impacts mental health: social interaction, in-person collaboration and innovation, and mentorship. While some degree of remote work is likely to become a permanent facet of our new normal, only 12% of U.S. workers say they want to continue doing it full-time.

Fellowship Community’s Magical Memory Table takes Tech Awards Gold – News

Fellowship Community’s Lisa Vercusky had been looking for new ways to engage with memory care residents when an online search at home led her to a tool common in Europe but virtually unheard of in the United States.

The next morning, the corporate quality officer at the 362-unit Whitehall, PA, community took the concept for a table-top virtual activity center directly to David Sutter, director of IT operations.

The Magical Memory Table the team cobbled together over the next year is the Gold winner in the Quality category of the Senior Living track of the 2020 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards. The project combines specialty software with a commercially available computer and projector to cast colorful, interactive videos onto a table. A motion-depth camera makes items respond as residents use their hands to catch virtual fish, move vividly colored balls or bricks or pick flowers.

Plans to create a huge retirement complex which included the revamp of an historic building have been thrown out.  Developers McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd and Kimberley Developments Ltd had hoped to build 48 apartments and convert Aldridge Manor House into seven flats and three homes on the land off Little Aston Road in Aldridge.  But Walsall Council planners felt the design and size of the scheme would have a negative impact on the listed building.  Officers also raised concerns about a lack of affordable housing provision as well as drainage and tree protection issues.

WORKSHOP8 Relies on Archicad to Overcome Obstacles –

The infamous economic downturn of 2009 presented an obstacle to that growth that the staff hurdled in 2010 by joining forces with other sole proprietors.

To keep busy and skills sharp, the group entered a design competition for a 73-unit multifamily senior project in El Paso, Texas. This competition delivered way more than bragging rights to the winner. Firms vied for the job to build what they came up with. Stakes were as high as the urge to create the winning design. Yet, backed by a strong team, the win was in the bag.

Thus, the origin story of WORKSHOP8, a name that pays homage to the original 8 creators of that winning design. The team size has grown larger than eight since then, but the name has stuck.
